December 202410 min read
Understanding the legitimate NHS recruitment process helps you identify scams. Here's what real NHS recruitment looks like.
Step 1: NMC Registration
Before applying for NHS jobs, you must register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council:
- Pass IELTS (7.0) or OET (B grade)
- Complete the Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Pass the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
- Submit qualification verification through CGFNS
Step 2: Job Application
Once registered with NMC, apply through official channels:
- jobs.nhs.uk (England)
- careers.nhs.scot (Scotland)
- jobs.wales.nhs.uk (Wales)
- HSC Jobs (Northern Ireland)
Step 3: Interview Process
Legitimate NHS interviews include:
- Panel interview with clinical staff
- Values-based questions
- Competency assessments
- Reference checks
Step 4: Visa Sponsorship
After receiving a job offer:
- Employer provides Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)
- You apply for Health and Care Worker visa
- NHS Trust pays the Immigration Skills Charge
- You pay the visa application fee (can be reimbursed by some employers)
Timeline
The entire process from starting NMC registration to arriving in the UK typically takes 12-18 months. Anyone promising faster results is likely a scammer.
